Clinton Says Obama Would Put Rick James on Dollar Bill

WASHINGTON.  Rejuvenated by victories in three of four primaries last Tuesday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s supporters went on the attack on Sunday morning talk shows today, saying that Illinois Senator Barack Obama would replace President George Washington with singer Rick James on the dollar bill if he is elected.

The hair styles are similar.

“How much do we really know about Senator Obama?” asked Senior Advisor Ann Lewis on “Meet the Press.”  “Until he releases his record collection from the late ’70’s, the rumors could be true.”

Ann Lewis:  “Thank you–I got the idea for this hair style from ‘Bustin’ Out of L7′.”

Lewis was referring to comments attributed to University of Chicago economics professor Austan Goolsbee, Obama’s economic advisor, in a meeting with Canadian officials.  “We have seen a dramatic decline in the dollar during the second Bush administration,” Goolsbee said according to notes of an Associated Press pool reporter.  “If you want to see the dollar really get down and funky, wait ’til we put the King of Punk-Funk on it.”

Goolsbee:  “I may have a funny name, but I’m way smarter than you.”

James is viewed by many as symbolic of the post-racial, internationalist theme of Obama’s campaign, as he performed in multi-racial bands in both the U.S. and Canada.  Putting his image on the dollar bill would have historical overtones for both political and musical reasons, as his uncle was Melvin Franklin, bass vocalist for The Temptations, and his cousins include Carl Stokes, first black mayor of Cleveland and Louis Stokes, an Ohio congressman.

“I like James’ longer, more thoughtful concept albums, such as the 1981 blockbuster ‘Street Songs’.”

Senator Obama has been reluctant to attack Senator Clinton directly, preferring to leave the dirty work to top-level academic advisors such as Harvard’s Samantha Power, who resigned last week after referring to Sentor Clinton as a “monster”.  Power subsequently resigned, saying she regretted her remarks.  “Senator Clinton is not a monster,” Power said in a written statement, “she is, however, a Super Freak.”
