On First Watching Reubens’ “Pee-wee Herman”

Much had I watched of children’s shows,
Captain Kangaroo, Pinky Lee and others seen;

Saw many cartoons on the TV screen,
To these my childhood paunch I owed.
Oft of playhouses had I been told
That Bozos and others ruled as their demesne;
Yet never did I watch so intent and keen
Till Pee-wee Herman screamed the secret word out bold:

Then felt I like some faith-healed rube–
Watching Jambi, the voluptuous Miss Yvonne,
Cowboy Curtis and the King of Cartoons on the tube;

Thankfully, I have the boxed DVD set because they are gone,
Chairy, Floory, Randy, Miss Yvonne’s boobs–
All because of a stupid arrest for indecent exposure in an adult theatre.
