The factory steering tappets on the ‘98 Toyota Avalon have been recalled twice, the first time because of shoddy pig iron from China and the second time by a temp in the safety compliance dept. for the hell of it. Because of the noise some drivers now use the vehicles as “drones” and operate them only in straight lines over short haul roads, for example to get the mail at the end of a long driveway, then back in reverse to the garage. You can remove the engine block with a hoist and use the car as a planter, or start the engine with the transmission in neutral and slow-cook pork. Save the drippings for your next lube job!

Hey Car Guy,

I have a 1998 toyota avalon. The car was fine until i brought in in to get new struts. When it came out of the shop a few days later when ever i made a slight turn of the wheel it would make a terrible squeeking noise. However when i straighten the wheel the noise would stop. Also the noise does not always occur. It randomly goes on and off but only happens when the tires are turned. The noise is terrible. Please help me out.
